First Home Owner Grant (FHOG)

Victoria offers a $10,000 First Home Owner Grant for new homes valued up to $750,000. This is separate from stamp duty concessions and can be received in addition.

Regional Victoria buyers may receive additional benefits through the Victorian Homebuyer Fund.

What about the Victorian property tax?

First home buyers with properties under $1 million can opt into the new Victorian Property Tax scheme (annual payments instead of upfront duty). This calculator shows traditional stamp duty - speak to your conveyancer about which option suits you.

Does the foreign purchaser surcharge apply?

Australian citizens and permanent residents are exempt. Temporary residents and foreign buyers pay an additional 8% surcharge on top of standard duty.
