Frequently asked questions
How does the ATO monthly tax table work?
Monthly earnings are converted to a weekly equivalent using the ATO Schedule 1 method, the relevant coefficient is applied, and the weekly amount is converted back to a whole-dollar monthly withholding amount.
Does the result include HELP withholding?
Yes when you select the study-loan option. For 2025-26, also identify payments made before 24 September 2025 so the calculator uses the correct Schedule 8 transition coefficients.
Why can my payslip be different?
Payroll may use a different TFN declaration, a withholding variation, Medicare exemption settings, irregular payments or other withholding schedules.

Reviewed: 30 July 2026 · Tax year: 2025-26 and 2026-27
Standard Australian-resident Schedule 1/8 estimate only. It excludes variations, Medicare exemptions, working holiday makers, foreign residents, irregular payments and other special schedules. The study-loan figure is Schedule 8's own component rate table, added to the Schedule 1 amount — the route the ATO's published study-loan tax tables use.
